JERSEYVILLE -  Cathy Lee Short, 58, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis County, Missouri. 

She was born in Jerseyville on October 3, 1962, and was the daughter of George and Barbara (Lorsbach) Ray.

Cathy grew up in Jerseyville and graduated in 1981 from Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville. 

In her earlier years, she worked as a waitress at the restaurant at Holiday Inn in Alton, later becoming manager. She then went to work for Crown Optical - AEG Vision in Alton, where she currently was the credential manager.

After six years of dating, she married Martin Edgar Short on September 20, 1986 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville, and together their lives have been blessed with 34 years of a wonderful marriage and two sons and a grandson.

Surviving are her husband, Marty Short of Jerseyville; two sons and a daughter in-law, Erik and Allicyn Short of Hixson, Tennessee and Zachary Short of Jerseyville; her three month old grandson, Yadier Short; a brother and sister in-law, James and Sally Ray of White Hall; her father in-law and mother in-law, Edgar and Edna Short of Jerseyville; a brother in-law and sister in-law, Terry and Carolyn Short of O'Fallon, Illinois.; a nephew and his wife, Travis and Ashley Short, and their two chilldren, Braxton and McKenna; a niece, Faith Short, all of O'Fallon, Illinois.; and her beloved feline companion, Maxx.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a half-brother, Thomas Ray.

A drive thru visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

A Private funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville, with Rev. Bob Taylor officiating. For those desiring to follow in the funeral procession to the cemetery you may meet at the church at 10:30 a.m.

Family and friends are invited to the join Cathy's family for a graveside service at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Social distancing and masks will be required by all.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or to Riverbend Humane Society, both in Jerseyville.
