Carole Adelle Terpening, 90, died at 5:28 a.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.
She was born on July 16, 1935 in Danville, Illinois, and was the daughter of the late Kenneth C. and Garnet (Smith) Berry. On July 4, 1953, she married James Canton Terpening at the Kane Baptist Church, and together they shared a lifetime of love and memories while raising their family. He preceded her in death on June 12, 2014.
Carole was deeply proud of her family roots and spent many hours tracing her genealogy, cherishing the stories and connections of those who came before her. She enjoyed gardening and meticulously caring for her home, which always reflected her pride and attention to detail. She loved to shop and was well known for her fondness for a little extra “bling.”
Above all else, Carole lived her life centered on two cornerstones she believed everyone should model, faith and family. She was a longtime and faithful member of the Kane Baptist Church, where she served in any capacity she could. Her family was truly everything to her, and she poured her love into each generation.
She is survived by two children and their spouses, David and Robin Terpening of Kane and Kenneth and Barb Terpening of Jerseyville; a son-in-law, Kevin Corder; nine grandchildren, James Jobe of St. Louis, Missouri, Ben Jobe of St. Louis, Missouri, Liz (Jon) Richards of Nutwood, Joe (Andi) Terpening of Kane, Jennifer Bryson of Carrollton, Megan Allen of Jerseyville, Ashley (Doug) Petty of Kirksville, Missouri, Lindsey (Matt) Sherrill of Normal, and Nathan (Ashley) Terpening of Alton; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul Thomas and Mary Berry of Jerseyville; and a brother-in-law, Norman Daniels.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kathryn Sue Corder; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris Elaine and William Mortland and Marilyn Daniels; as well as a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Joyce Berry.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Kane Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Kane Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Kane Baptist Church, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
