JERSEYVILLE - Brian Christopher Cushman, 51, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born on April 1, 1974 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Larry and Susan (Peckron) Cushman. He grew up in Florissant, where he graduated with the Class of 1993 from Hazelwood Central High School, and later proudly served with the United States Air Force Reserves.

Brian was a hard worker who spent many years with Briner Electric in St. Louis County. He later worked at Alton Steel and Imperial Manufacturing in Alton, until his health no longer allowed him to keep at it, a tough reality for someone who always preferred to stay busy.

Life took him from East Alton to Jerseyville, where he found his perfect match in the former Carmen Crader. The two were married on October 23, 2021, and together built a life filled with love, laughter, and more than a few four-legged companions. Through his first marriage, he became step-dad to Brandon and Brittany, and after marrying Carmen, he joyfully stepped into the role again with Alex and Austin.

Outdoors is where Brian came alive. Whether it was hunting, fishing, archery or four-wheel riding, so long as it got him outside, he was in his element. His dogs were his shadows and sidekicks, always part of every adventure. He loved his people just as much, whether it was sharing laughs at Don’s No Man’s Land Tavern in East Alton, catching up over a cold beer, or hollering at the TV during NASCAR races. Brian didn’t complicate life, he lived it, and he did it his way - with grit, humor, and a heart that had room for everyone.

Surviving are his wife, Carmen Cushman of Jerseyville; his parents, Larry and Sue Cushman of O’Fallon, Missouri; his step-children; a sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Kerry Kneemiller of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri; along with his nephew and niece, Ethan and Emma.

A visitation will be held from 4–6 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2025 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with a Celebration of Life to follow at DJ’s Pub & Grill in Jerseyville, exactly the kind of send-off Brian would have wanted.

Memorials may be given to the Riverbend Humane Society or to your local no-kill animal shelter, because if Brian had his way, every dog would have a home.
