JERSEYVILLE – Barbara Ella Meyer, 82, died Saturday, January 6, 2024 at SSM DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, Missouri.

She was born on May 3, 1941 in Jersey County, Illinois to the late Robert and Dorothy (Chappell) Weigel.

A lifelong resident of Jersey County, Barbara attended Delhi Elementary School and Jersey Community High School. 

She married Leland A. Meyer on February 9, 1959 in Tennessee and together they were the proud parents of four children, and shared in 40 years of marriage prior to his death on November 3, 1999.

For 23 years, she was employed at the Ursuline Convent in Alton, Illinois, where she retired as the head of Housekeeping.

She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, a master of crochet, enjoyed working crossword puzzles and always looked forward to her ladies weekly lunch outings.

She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed gathering new recipes she would discover watching cooking shows, and relished in gathering her family around the table with a home cooked meal.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Walsh of Jerseyville; three sons and a daughter in-law, Jeff (Debbie) Meyer of Jerseyville, Tim Meyer of Jerseyville and Chad (Christy Snell) Meyer of Edwardsville; two granddaughters, Erica (Matt) Smith and Megan Mourning, all of Alton; a great granddaughter, Stella; a step-great granddaughter, Olivia; as well as a sister and brother in-law, Marcella and Joseph Hornsey of Godfrey.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin Weigel, Jerry Weigel and a brother in infancy; two sisters, Wilma Calame and Judith Weigel; as well as a son in-law, Kenny Walsh.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the Jersey Community Hospital Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
