BARBARA JANE BUNSE

JERSEYVILLE - Barbara Jane Bunse, 72, died at 1:40 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Alton Memorial Hospital. 

She was born on January 19, 1953, in Alton, to the late Raymond and Wanda (Ulery) Bunse. 

She was raised in the Catholic faith, attended Holy Ghost grade school, and was a 1971 graduate of Jersey Community High School. She graduated from Gradwohl Medical Laboratory School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1972. After working ten years at Osceola Memorial Hospital in Osceola, Arkansas, she returned to Jerseyville to further her education, obtaining her Associates Degree from Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey, as well as her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology with a minor in Chemistry from Southern-Illinois University Edwardsville in 1986 - all while working full time with the American Red Cross in St. Louis. She ended her working career as a Medical Laboratory Technician at Alton Memorial Hospital, where she retired in 2015 after 25 years of service. 

She is survived by a sister, Carol Bunse of Jerseyville; a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Mary Bunse of Glen Carbon; two nephews, Michael Bunse and Andy Bunse, both of Glen Carbon; an aunt, Mary Jane Baalman of Decatur, Georgia; along with numerous cousins. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Henry and Mary Bunse; her maternal grandparents, Linley and Josephine Ulery; her brother, Father Gerald “Jerry” Bunse in 2019; and her sister, Theresa Bunse in 2012. 

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. 

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fieldon. 

Memorials may be given to Masses, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
