ALFRED RUSSELL

JERSEYVILLE – Alfred L. “Al” Russell, 95, died at 9:04 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Jerseyville Manor, just four days shy of celebrating his 96th birthday.

He was born on December 23, 1927 in Fieldon, Illinois, to the late Charles and Annie (Minard) Russell, where he grew up as part of a large family.

He married the former Audrey Jean Shaw and together, they too raised a large family together, consisting of seven boys and one daughter, and shared in 70 years of marriage, prior to her death on November 27, 2018.

Al was a familiar face in and around Jerseyville, working for many years detailing cars at the former Sunderland Motor Company, always greeting everyone he saw with a warm smile and a friendly conversation.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen Murle; seven sons, Terry, Allen, Roger, Kendell, Mike, Shawn and James Russell; a sister, Esther Howard; as well as two brothers, Clarence “Pat” and Charles Russell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Jean; three brothers, James Russell, John Russell and Donald Russell; as well as a sister, Leona Roe.

Private interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the family, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, IL 62052, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
