WELDON "SIM" SIMMERMAKER
JERSEYVILLE - Weldon G. "Sim" Simmermaker, 88, died at 2:28 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.
He was born on April 10, 1930 in rural Shipman to the late Harry and Ethel (Bullman) Simmermaker.
He graduated with the class of 1948 from Shipman High School and worked for a period of time for Standard Oil. He was then a self-employed carpenter, and retired from Jersey Community Unit School District #100 as a maintenance worker.
He played many sports throughout his younger years and excelled in horseshoes. He was proud to be a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge #212 in Shipman.
Surviving are a daughter and son in-law, Janny and Terry Hartley of Edwardsville; two grandchildren and their spouses, Nathan and Andrea Hartley of Dorsey and Tara and Andrew Robertson of Hamel; four great-grandchildren, Hank, Tessa Jo and Cyler Hartley of Dorsey and Elena Robertson of Hamel; a sister, Nelda Edsall of Shipman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to him as "Uncle Snuffy".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lynn Simmermaker.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Burial will take place at the Shipman Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the Shipman Masonic Lodge #212, in care of the funeral home.
