Vera Lee (Dabbs) Neal

Vera Lee Neal, 86, died at 9:30 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2018 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Rosedale Township, Jersey County, Il. on Jan. 25, 1932, and was the daughter of Sherman L. and Esther Belle (Plummer) Dabbs. Surrounded by farms her entire life, Vera did not shy away from any responsibility or hard work.  She worked alongside her husband on their family farm in Otter Creek Township for many years, in addition to maintaining a loving home, caring for her family, and raising her children. She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville, the former Fieldon Home Extension, and was loved by many, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She married Clifford J. Neal on June 18, 1949 in Jerseyville, and together they shared 69 years of marriage, and just over 3 months apart, before rejoining each other in the rewards of Heaven. Surviving are her two children and their spouses,  Karen and Jeff Brinkman of Jerseyville, and Randy and Mary Neal of Jerseyville; six grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Williamson of Clarksville, Tn., Kristin and Otis Rodriguez of Clarksville, Tn., Heidi O'Neal of Jerseyville, Georgia Hansen of White Hall, Josh and Nicole Neal of Jerseyville, and Amber and Nathan Wilson of Jerseyville; 13 Great-Grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Sharon Marks of Deerfield Beach, Fl. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, June King and Carol Jean Traub. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m., Wednesday until time of funeral services at 10 a.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville, with Rev. Brett Simek officiating. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Noble Cemetery in Otterville. Memorials may be given to the Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville.
