SHIRLEY CUMMINGS
BETHALTO - Shirley Jean (Stringer) Cummings, 84, died at 3:34 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2018 at her residence with her husband and children at her side after a short battle with cancer.
She was born in Kane on February 11, 1934, and was one of four children born to the late Worthy and Natalie (Roady) Stringer.
Shirley grew in Kane, and attended the three year Kane High School, finishing her senior year and graduating in 1952 from Jersey Community High School.
She loved to sew, being outside tending to her garden, camping (with her favorite spot being Rend Lake), but most importantly she enjoyed loving and caring for her family.
She married Leonard Cummings on July 5, 1953 at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Carrollton, and together they have been blessed with over 65 years of a wonderful marriage.
Surviving are her husband, Leonard Cummings Sr. of Bethalto; a daughter and son in-law, Deborah and Michael Cope of Bethalto; a son and daughter in-law, Leonard and Tammy Cummings Jr. of Bethalto; five grandchildren;12 great grandchildren; and a sister and brother in-law, Keota and Poncho Rodriguez of San Tan Valley, Arizona.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers in-law, Emma Dee and Marvin Margeson and Hazel and John "Jack" Gross.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Monday until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Carrollton.
