MELODY HUNTER

JERSEYVILLE -  Melody Lynn (Dilks) Hunter, 55, died unexpectedly at 10:03 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at her residence of natural causes.

She was born in Carrollton on July 18, 1963, and was the daughter of John Raymond and Carol Ann (Ogle) Dilks.

She married Wesley Hunter on November 24, 1979 at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. She was a proud Army wife of 20 years, accompanying her husband wherever he was stationed whether it was Panama, South Korea, Bahrain, and all across the United States, she was there.

After returning to civilian life, she relocated to Jerseyville, and quickly settled into the community. She worked as a cook at Fran and Marilyn's Restaurant in Jerseyville, and was currently employed in the same capacity at DJ's Pub and Grill and Jerseyville.

Melody always possessed her trademark style, and had an uncanny way of making other feel comfortable, appreciated and loved. Her love extended to all of her family, and she was self proclaimed and affectionately known as "Crazy Aunt Mel" by her army of nieces and nephews.

Surviving are her husband, Wesley Hunter.

Melody was the biological mother of two children, Wesley Hunter II of Clayton, Indiana, and Hannah Hunter of Quincy; but was the Mom of four, as she lovingly raised her sister Kisha Dilks Stiles, and her grandson, Dylan Hunter as if they were her own.

She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Gabrielle Tillery of Corydon, In., Chris Dilks of Jerseyville, Mischelle and Matthew Rhodes of New Berlin, Kisha and John Stiles of Jerseyville, Todd Barfield of Jerseyville and Ambra Barfield of Perry; two step brothers and their spouses, Kevin and Angie Barfield of Jacksonville and Rocky and Penny Barfield of Springfield; a step sister, Sherry Barfield; her mother in-law Doris Thompson of Fieldon; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, as well as her stepfather, John Barfield; two brothers, Rickey Dilks and Johnny Barfield; a sister, Tina Dilks; a sister in-law, LaDonna Johnson; and two brothers in-law, Joseph Wesley Hunter and John Hamel.
