MARILYN MEDFORD

GODFREY — Marilyn (Cunningham) Medford, 83, passed away at 3:50 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Mary Ann, under the care of BJC Hospice.

She was born in Alton, Illinois, on Oct. 22, 1934 to John Maurice and Alma (Kleffner) Cunningham.

Marilyn was raised in Jersey County, and moved to the Godfrey area after her marriage to George L. Medford, whom she married on June 29, 1952 in Jerseyville. Together they raised their large family and shared nearly 31 years together before his death on June 15, 1983.

She elected to be a stay at home Mom and care for her children and home until 1975, at which time she began working in the Dietary Department at Alton Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1998 after 23 years of service.

Surviving are her eight children and their spouses, Michael and Dottye Cunningham of Jerseyville, Barbara and Charlie Schuster of Sorento, Eldon Medford of Godfrey, Mary Ann Wadlow of Godfrey, Marilyn Stephens of Bethalto, Diane and Bob Herring of Alton, Brian Medford of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Alan and Diana Medford of Godfrey; a son in-law, Michael Bruns of Godfrey; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren with another expected in April; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Cunningham of Jerseyville.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Bruns on July 23, 2006; a son in-law, Stanley Wadlow on Nov. 28, 2014; two brothers, Donald Cunningham and Paul Cunningham; and an infant sister, Marian.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Carl Hayes will officiate.

She will be laid to rest in the Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

Memorials may be give to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital  or to BJC Hospice.
