Margie R (Frazier) Shackles

MARGIE SHACKLES

JERSEYVILLE - Margie R. Shackles, 82, died at 6:07 p.m., Monday, December 31, 2018 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health.

She was born in Mississippi  Township in Jersey County, Il., on Feb. 21, 1936, and was the daughter of Clifford F. and Marie (Stoeckel) Frazier.

Margie never shied away from hard work, and was employed in numerous capacities throughout her life. She first began working at the International Shoe Factory and later was the store manager for the Sav-Mor Discount Store, both in Jerseyville. Later, she began working out of the Labor Local #646 in Jerseyville, many times serving in traffic control.

She enjoyed playing bingo and yard sales, and was a strong independent woman, who didn't mind sharing what was on her mind, but it was also apparent that she possessed a heart of gold.

She married Everett L. Shackles on Oct. 17, 1953 in Jerseyville, and together they were the proud parents of a son. The two shared 40 years of marriage before his death on April 28, 1994.

Surviving are son and daughter in-law, Everett "PeeWee" and Paula Shackles of Jerseyville; a grandson and his spouse, Bryan and Amy Shackles, two great granddaughters,  Emma and Abbie; a brother and sister in-law, Frank and Phyllis Frazier of Godfrey.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Frazier, Clifford Frazier and Carl Frazier; and four sisters, Helen Tucker, Blanche Hendrickson, Lena Frazier Clore, and Beulah "Tootie" Naylor.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m., Saturday until time of funeral services at 12 noon at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
