JERSEYVILLE – Juanita Jesse Johnson, 83, died at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.

She was born in Turley, TN on December 29, 1934, one of five children born to the late Luther and Ethel (Douglas) Cordell.

Juanita grew up in La Follette, TN where she met Robert Theadore Kitts. The two married in 1953 and shortly after relocated to Jerseyville, where they raised their three children and owned and operated Kitts Jewelry for many years. Their marriage spanned 39 years before his death in June, 1992.

She later married Harold Johnson on December 18, 1993 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville and together they shared in nearly 4 years of marriage before his death on June 21, 1997.

Juanita worked for many years, following her husband’s retirement at Roeper Plastics in Jerseyville and later as a Bus Monitor for Jersey Community Unit School District #100 for nearly 10 years prior to her retirement.

In her younger years, she enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. As she grew older, she enjoyed the simpler things in life, enjoying the company of close friends and family.

Surviving are a son, David Kitts of Maize, KS; a daughter, Anita Kitts of Jerseyville; two grandchildren, Anita Nicole Kitts of Clifton, CO and Ryan Sheddon (Anna) Willis of Jerseyville; eight great-grandchildren; as well as a sister, Bonnie.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Kitts; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul and two sisters, Stella and Pernie.

Per her wishes, cremation rights will be accorded and no services will be held.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
