Evelyn "Sis" (Brannan) Kanallakan Schmieder

EVELYN SCHMIEDER
JERSEYVILLE -   Evelyn F. "Sis" Kanallakan Schmieder, 94, died at 7:18 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2018 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Carrollton on September 23, 1924, and was one of five daughters born to Luther and Bernice (Staats) Brannan.
For many years Sis worked in retail, first at Miller's Department Store, and then at Bertman's both in downtown Jerseyville.   She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon, and was deeply devoted to her faith.
She first married Robert L. Kanallakan Sr. on July 4, 1942 in Jerseyville,  Together, they were the parents of two sons, and shared nearly 47 years together prior to his death on May 5, 1989.   She then married John Schmieder on Aug. 24, 1991 in Jerseyville, and they shared 24 years before his death on Dec. 3, 2015.
Surviving are her two sons, Joe Kanallakan and his companion, Sheila Bowers of Jerseyville, and BobbyKanallakan, and his companion, Judy Stamper of McClusky; three step children and their spouses, Kathy and Bill Breden of Jerseyville, Becky and Kevin Hughes of Fieldon, and Doug and Mary Schmieder ofJerseyville; her grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Tom Green, John and Amy Kanallakan, Pam Kanallakan, Tiffany and J.D. Oates, Andy and Nikki Kanallakan, Wendy and Ryan Ward, Stacy Kanallakan, and her companion, Brandon Meuth, Kevin and Nicole Kanallakan, Kaley Bowers, Maranda Schmieder and Michelle and JayHallstead; 27 great grandchildren; and one  sister, Jean Ansell of Jerseyville.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by a grandson, KristopherKanallakan; and three sisters, Irma Eileen Brannan, Neva Skinner and Lilly Barbour.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon, with Father Martin Smith officiating.
She will be laid to rest in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Fieldon.
Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville.
