Edward John Richter, 89, of Jerseyville, formerly of Kampsville, died at 8:50 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.
He was born in Calhoun County, Illinois on July 29, 1929, and was the son of William Frederick and Zelora Catherine (Eschbach) Richter.
Ed spent the majority of his life in Kampsville, where he enjoyed being a commercial fisherman, and was the owner and operator of the Richter Fish Market in Kampsville.
Surviving are his wife, Marcella (Kraushaar) Simpson Richter of Jerseyville; two step sons, Gary Simpson of Jerseyville and Phil Simpson, and his wife, Peggy, of White Hall, Illinois; numerous step grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step daughter in-law, Barbara Simpson; one brother, Walter Richter; and three sisters, Alberta Brangenberg, Lela Schumann and Margera Eberlin.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 11 a.m. to escort Edward to his final place of rest, alongside his parents at the St. Anselm's Catholic Cemetery in Kampsville.
In recognition of his service with the United States Navy during the Korean War, the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492 will conduct military graveside rites.
Memorials may be given to the family in care of the funeral home.
