Bette Margaret (Becker) Maher

BETTE MAHER

GODFREY – Bette Margaret (Becker) Maher, 90, went to be with her Lord at 4:13 a.m., Monday, November 5, 2018 at Morningside of Godfrey.

She was born on My 13, 1928 in New Jersey, one of three children born to the late Peter and Katherine (Baumgartner) Becker.

She met George William Maher, while he was stationed with the United States Air Force and the two married on January 8, 1949 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. Together their journey spanned 68 years, in which they shared in many wonderful memories together raising their four children. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2017. They also experienced much sorrow with the loss of their son, as well as grandchildren, but they did so together with the help of their love for another, their family and their faith.

George and Bette enjoyed traveling and did so often, both throughout the United States and abroad. They were active members of the Abundant Life Community Church in Alton, participating in numerous mission trips with their church family throughout the years.

Surviving are a two daughters and sons in-law, Mindy and Jim Bobeldyk of Wyoming, MI and Sara and Eric Short of Edwardsville; a son, Mike Maher of Edwardsville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; along with her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Peter Maher on August 22, 1966 at the age of 13; a granddaughter, Jessica Maher; a grandson, Garrett Short; a brother and sister in-law; as well as an infant sister.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12 noon on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimers Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
